'Talkin After Hours': A free workshop & networking BBQ
Understanding Your Soil Test
A beginners guide to interpreting a soil test report.
Soil type & texture / pH (water), pH (CaCl2) / Electrical Conductivity / Cation exchange capacity & exchangeable cations / available minerals & nutrients / Soil organic matter & carbon / calcium to magnesium ratio / salinity / phosphorus buffering index..
What does it all mean?
Our November 'Talkin After Hours' topic is aimed at helping landholders 'unpack' their soil test report, better enabling them to make good decisions on what amendments need to be made to improve their soils health and productivity.
Our Presenter:
Semi retired Soil Scientist Bob Jeffery is well qualified to provide us with expert advice on how to read our soil test results.
Bob managed the Soil Chemistry/Analysis Section of the Department of Ag for many years, during which time he was involved with the development of soil testing calibration methods still used today. Bob was also involved in research using innovative analysis methods to investigate the effectiveness of fertilisers, liming materials and soil amendments for improving agricultural production and minimising environmental impacts. Since leaving the Dept Bob has run a private soil management consultancy business, and has helped numerous farmers with soil testing for beef and dairy pastures, viticulture, vegetables , avocados and turf.
Networking BBQ
At the end of the presentation we'll relax & throw some snaggers on the barbie. It will be a great chance to keep talking about this key topic, network with Bob and local landholders who have experiences to share.
Can't make it to the presentation? Don't worry, you are still very welcome to come along to this part of the event, we'd love to see you there!
