REGIONAL ESTUARIES INITIATIVE (REI)
The Regional Estuaries Initiative is a four-year, $20 million Royalties for Regions funded program to improve the health of six Western Australian estuaries being delivered in partnership with the Department of Water.
One of those six is the estuary located at the Blackwood River mouth, the Hardy Inlet at Augusta. The Lower Blackwood LCDC is working in partnership with local agencies & landholders to deliver a range of on-ground works including:
Stock exclusion fencing & revegetation of riparian zones
Soil testing to support better fertiliser decisions
Smart Farming Partnerships – local fertiliser trials
"Raising Capability" is a two year project funded by the State NRM Program. This innovative and much needed project focuses on providing support and advice to landowners in the catchment on natural resource management and building the capacity and skills of the group to meet the needs of their landowners now and into the future.
Project components include:
Lower Blackwood Vertebrate Pest Management Group (Feral Pigs)
This group aims to control the increase in feral pig population and reduce their impact on our unique environment and agricultural industry through:
Engagement of field officers working across the region to trap & shoot pigs
Monitoring & mapping of pig populations
Funded by the State NRM office, the Augusta-Margaret River Shire and the Shire of Nannup, the project is facilitated through a continuing partnership with the Lower Blackwood LCDC the Lower Blackwood Vertebrate Pest Management Group.
