Dung Beetle Sundowner: Discover the Power Beneath Your Paddocks
Join us for an evening in the paddock exploring the fascinating world of dung beetles and the big impact these little creatures have on farm productivity and soil health.
Learn the basics of dung beetles, their life cycles, behaviours, and the role they play in breaking down manure. We’ll look at the many benefits they bring, from boosting soil health and improving nutrient cycling, to reducing parasites and flies.
Hear about simple farm management practices that can help you look after dung beetles on your property, and get an update on our local Dung Beetle Soil Health Initiative – an ongoing program aiming to fill the gaps, monitor beetle activity, and map out future work.
The evening will also include a paddock walk with hands-on monitoring demonstrations to help identify local species and their activity periods.
You can also bring a livestock poop sample from your own place to get hands-on and learn how to look for dung beetles yourself!
Just bring a dung sample in a bucket on the day
There’ll be plenty of time for questions, discussion, and sharing insights over a sundowner BBQ and drinks.
