Carrots 🥕
here is a crazy idea but has anyone fed sheep, cows and pigs carrots ? If so how did the animals perform?
I have had a chat with a guy that can deliver 23 tonne of seconds carrots to my farm all inclusive of delivery and the carrots for $3k.
that’s alot of carrots and doubt I could use them all before they went off, but maybe others…

I’m pretty sure @joanna used to feed her sheep reject vegetables from her market garden and they did well on them.. not sure about carrots in particular but imagine they’d be no problem.

This interview with Jaime Elizondo goes into quite a few of the grazing principles we have been talking about. Well worth a listen if you find yourself at a loose end during the seasons break 🙂

Grazing Through Spring in a Mediterranean Environment
Admittedly I have destocked to the point that mob grazing is challenging .. but this is the best I could get in terms of utilisation after a 2 day graze with our sheep – they are not very interested in eating much beyond the top third of the grass with more trampled than eaten. So should I force them by keeping them in the cell for longer or do…

Thanks for your input Eric,
I think having well rested pastures up your sleeve ready to go at this time of year is key.
Re the utilisation, do you think the cattle do better than the sheep on high fibre forage?

Grazing Through Spring in a Mediterranean Environment
Hi Folks,
I’ve just written a piece outlining some of the considerations that come with grazing pastures in spring, and making the transition from the growing to the non growing season. You can either download it or read it below. We would love to hear your input on how you negotiate this time of year in your grazing program.
Grazing…
